After the commission of the NPP, Belarus will reduce the share of gas in electricity production to 60%, Energy Minister Viktor Karankevich told today at the first National Forum on Sustainable Development in Minsk, BelTA has learned.

After the commission of the nuclear power plant, Belarus will reduce the share of gas in the production of electricity to 60%

“The commissioning of Belarusian nuclear power plant will make it possible to replace up to 5 billion cubic meters of natural gas and, accordingly, to reduce its share in the production of electricity from 95% to 60%,” Viktor Karankevich said. He noted that the plant in Ostrovets is being built according to the project of a new generation "3+", which meets all modern safety requirements.

“At present, Belarusian NPP is being integrated into the energy system and economy of the country, a corresponding action plan has been developed for the development of industry, electric transport, installation of electric boilers and peak-reserve sources at power grid facilities,” the minister informed.

According to Viktor Karankevich, the Ministry of Energy intends to continue work on the diversification of species and suppliers of fuel and energy resources, including through the construction of renewable energy sources and the use of atomic energy.

Further modernization and development of generating sources, electrical and heat networks through the introduction of highly efficient equipment, as well as the maximum possible economic and environmental feasibility of involving their own energy resources in the fuel balance are planned.
